Liason Luncheon: Every year the Solid Waste Authority hosts a luncheon for the Teacher Liaisons and Principals from each of the County schools where environmental awards are given to thank them for all their hard work and dedication.

Making A Statement About The Importance Of Recycling: Students created doors out of materials (see picture on right) they would have otherwise discarded in the classrooms to create awareness for reusing and recycling materials in the schools.

Some of the recycling programs in Horry County Schools:

Coastal Carolina University's Students For Environmental Action Club (SEA) hosts a yearly 'Tree-A-Thon' to promote environmental awareness on campus. (Club President Beth Gunter pictured).

Teachers were rewarded at the Annual Environmental Luncheon. From left to right: Accepting for Leslie Polatty from South Conway Middle School, Gerry Ferguson from North Myrtle Beach Elementary, Ardis Entzminger from Carolina Forest Middle School, and Judy Chestnut from Whittemore Park Middle School.

Carolina Forest Elementary thinks the SWA for contributing mulch and compost to their campus beautification project.

Loris High School ( Karen Hilbourn) has a student recycling team. They help to collect the recycling items around the school and promote environmental awareness to their peers.
