The Store Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening

December 12, 2011 - Conway, SC --- The Horry County Solid Waste Authority in conjunction with the Horry County Council on Aging (HCCOA) will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony in recognition of the grand opening of The Store. The Store is a resale outlet offering used items that you can give a second life. The Store accepts donated items that can be recycled, reconditioned or repurposed for continued use. You'll find everything from household items and furniture to lawn & garden and building supplies.

The grand opening event will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, beginning at 10:00A.M. and will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception. In addition, attendees will be encouraged to tour the new facility as well as make purchases from The Store.

SWA Celebrates America Recycles Day

November 8, 2010 - Conway, SC ---- In celebration of America Recycles Day, the Horry County Solid Waste Authority (SWA) will be distributing recycling information and recycled-content prizes at the Myrtle Beach Wal-Mart on Seaboard Street.

On Saturday, November 13th from 10:00AM-2:00PM, the SWA will be giving away recycled-content prizes to the first 50 residents bringing at least three recyclable items to the event. Recyclable items may include plastic bottles, aluminum cans, glass bottles, cardboard and/or newspaper. In addition, drawings will be held for a recycled-content prize pack and a $50 Wal-Mart gift card. Star 92.1 will also be broadcasting live from the event from 10:00AM - 12:00PM.

Horry County 2010 Recycling Super Star Named

October 12, 2010 - Conway, SC ---- In addition to City of Conway Sanitation Superintendent, Reggie Jenerette now holds another title, Horry County 2010 Recycling Super Star. At the October 11, 2010 City of Conway Council Meeting, the Horry County Solid Waste Authority presented Mr. Jenerette with the 2010 Recycling Super Star award for his outstanding efforts in encouraging and inspiring others to make a positive difference concerning environmental issues. Mr. Jenerette was instrumental in improving operational efficiency and effectiveness in the City's recycling program. In addition, Mr. Jenerette is always looking at ways to improve recycling services for City of Conway residents, which was evident when the City began offering to install wheels on recycling bins in order to make them easier for residents to transport.

SWA Kicks Off Pilot Curbside Recycling Program

September 24, 2010 - Conway, SC ---- The Horry County Solid Waste Authority in conjunction with Pulte Homes will kick-off a pilot curbside recycling program at the Heritage Preserve Subdivision on Highway 90 in Conway to determine the feasibility of curbside recycling in a subdivision.

"The SWA is always looking at different ways to increase recycling participation throughout the County", said Danny Knight, SWA Executive Director. "We are hopeful this pilot program will provide us with valuable information regarding curbside recycling collection possibilities that we can share with other subdivisions, neighborhoods and waste haulers.

Horry County Solid Waste Authority Present Annual Environmental Awards

September 15, 2010 - Conway, SC ---- Four Horry County schools and two educators recently received environmental awards during the Horry County Solid Waste Authority's 17th Annual Environmental Awards Banquet held on September 14, 2010 in Conway.

Horry County Solid Waste Authority Awards Ten Scholarships

June 11, 2010 - Conway, SC - The Horry County Solid Waste Authority has awarded ten Environmental Scholarships to eligible high school seniors seeking a degree in an environmental field. Each recipient receives a $1,000 scholarship after having completed public education volunteering with the Horry County Solid Waste Authority. Every year the Horry County Solid Waste Authority awards one eligible graduating high school senior from each high school in Horry County, a one-time $1,000 scholarship. Over the past four years, the Solid Waste Authority has awarded $36,000 in scholarships through this program.

Horry County Solid Waste Authority Recognizes Recycling Student of the Year
